How to Fight: TJ DIllashaw Teaches the Body Kick Counter

Summary

The body kick is one of the most commonly thrown kicks during a MMA match, and a lot of my opponents try and hit the liver using body kicks. With the help of Danny Castillo, I am going to demonstrate how and when to counter a body kick.

Body Kick Counter Steps

Step 1: When blocking a body kick make sure you do not lower your hands. This allows your opponents kick to make contact with your head, while you are blocking your body.

Step 2: To properly block a body kick, keep your hands up and lower your elbow into your hip, do not lower your hands.

Step 3: As your opponent returns from their kick, return with a hook, since your arm is already loaded and ready to strike.

Step 4: After the counter, step in with a cross first and follow that with your hook.
