Summary
These are the 3 simple mistakes are very easy to avoid and could mean the difference between walking away in a fight with a win or a loss. When you incorporate these 3 techniques into your next mixed martial arts fight, you will increase your chances to come out your next match the victor. Don’t let these three mistakes be the difference in your next fight. Whether you are an MMA athlete or a Boxer, use proper striking techniques and do no let these 3 striking mistakes be the reason your get KO’d in your next fight.
Striking Mistake #1: Leaving Your Mouth Open
The first striking mistake I see is fighters keeping their mouth open while striking. Always keep your mouth closed while striking. You do not want to chip any teeth, so always train with a mouthpiece so you can build that initial reaction to bite down on the mouthpiece while striking.
Striking Mistake #2: Punching with the Broad Surface of the Fist
A lot of fighters are punching with the broad surface of the fist. You want to bring your fist down, rotating your thumb over ensuring you make contact with your first two knuckles. It doesn’t matter if you are throwing a cross, a jab, an uppercut, a hook, or an overhand always make sure you are making contact with your first two knuckles.
Striking Mistake #3: Telegraphing Your Shots
The last striking mistake you make is telegraphing your shots. You may be raising your head up or cocking your arm out, either way your opponent knows your strike is coming. You can take that away by staying tucked in your shell, and make sure you are twisting your punch at the end of the strike as opposed to the beginning where you are loading your shot. Again keep your punch nice and tight, not turing your fist until the end.
